Spring-Summer 2020 Message from the President

Greetings WTS Sacramento. As we progress through this historic year, I continue to be impressed by our industry’s resiliency and our chapter’s ability to pivot into this new remote world. We saw strong attendance at our first ever virtual professional development workshop in June and at the virtual lunch programs held in July, August, and September.

Our virtual momentum continues with the upcoming Professional Development Workshop – featuring Victoria Hatch, CPSM, and Tara Kinsella presenting “Overcoming Stress: Is Your Current Work/Life Reality Making Your Body Sick?” – and the October Lunch Program – featuring Aaron Hoyt, Placer County Transportation Planning Agency Project Manager and Sam Vandell, Caltrans Project Manager presenting on the Highway 49 Rehab and ATP Improvements. You can also look forward to the upcoming Diversity and Inclusion program championed by Charuni Kurumbalapitiya (get to know her better down in the Better Know a Board Member section).

Scholarship and awards season has arrived with Autumn! In our recent Scholarship Spotlight Series we nearly doubled our fundraising goal of $5,000 with a total of $9,462 raised for scholarships! Scholarship applications are now open. Since 2005 WTS Sacramento has awarded over $125,000 in scholarships to 100 young women so please encourage any potential applicants in your network to submit their application today. Awards applications are also open so please consider coworkers, peers, projects, and companies you may wish to nominate for the annual awards. Award recipients will be honored in January 2021 at our Annual Awards & Scholarship Event.

Finally, we would like to congratulate the WTS UC Davis chapter for electing their new board and a special congratulations to their new President, Sonia Antoine! And a special thank you to the outgoing board. We recognize and appreciate the time and effort you have dedicated to our industry and community.

Thank you everyone for your continued support for WTS Sacramento. Together we will weather 2020 and continue to advance women in transportation.

Warmest Regards,

Lauren Reinking, PE
