September - October 2021 Message From the President

Greetings WTS Sacramento! I hope this newsletter finds you well as we swing into the holiday season.

With the new year fast approaching the WTS Board is getting ready for 2022. Please take a moment to cast your vote for the 2022 Executive Board of Directors via this link. Ballots are due December 8, 2021. To vote, you must be an active WTS Sacramento member.

WTS Sacramento will be holding our 2022 Strategic Planning Meeting on the evening of December 15, 2021. If anyone is interested in volunteering on the Board, now is the perfect time to get involved. Please email me at emily.abrahams@dot.ca.gov if you are interested and I can give you more information.

Please remember that our Annual Award Nominations are due by 5pm on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. Don't miss your only opportunity this year to nominate a person or project for a WTS Sacramento Annual Award! The nomination forms are available on our chapter website and are great ways to honor members of our transportation community who support our organization and its mission: advancing women in transportation.

And one of my favorite initiatives of WTS is our Annual Scholarship Program for high school, junior college, trade school, undergraduate, and graduate students. The scholarship application deadline has been extended to 5pm on Friday, December 3, 2021. If you know students or interns, it’s not too late to encourage them to apply! Applications are available on our chapter website.

Typically WTS Sacramento holds our Annual Awards and Scholarship Dinner in late January to honor our award winners and scholarship recipients. This year we will hold the event in person at a new indoor-outdoor venue in March. Stay tuned for more information in the coming months!

Read below for recaps of our October Lunch Program on the Yankee Jim’s Bridge Replacement Project and our Fall Professional Development Golf 101 Clinic and much more! And for upcoming events, our December Lunch Program will be on the Happy Camp Complete Streets Project coinciding with Native American Heritage Month (November).

Thank you for your continued support of WTS! Happy Holidays!

Warmest Regards,

Emily Abrahams
