September-October 2019 Message From the President

The end of year is almost here, where did the time go? As you’re preparing for the upcoming holidays, we hope you also take the time to nominate some incredible individuals, groups, and projects that have made an impact this year for our six annual awards. The nomination deadline is December 6th, please see below for links to the award criteria. Thanks to much generous support, we were able to raise $20,000 at the 7th annual fashion show fundraiser in September! Our review committee is looking forward to awarding several scholarships to deserving women interested in pursuing careers in the transportation industry. The scholarship application deadline has been extended to December 6th, please encourage your friends, sisters, daughters, coworkers, and other women in your life to apply.

Our Mentorship Program, Transportation YOU and Student Chapter at Davis have had a successful fall so far! Read more below for a recap on what these spectacular groups have been doing. Also this fall, we had the pleasure of welcoming Amarjeet Benipal, the Caltrans District 3 Director, who gave a presentation on regional projects at our October lunch program. We also celebrated our 2019 Corporate Partners at The Bank on October 22nd, another big thanks to all out sponsors and for your continued support throughout the year.

Earlier this month, we finished the year’s monthly lunch programs with Jesse Gothan, supervising engineer with the City of Sacramento Public Works Department, who presented with his project team on the I Street Bridge Replacement Project. Thank you Jesse for the fun and informative presentation! Last night we had our Fall Professional Development Event: Women in Transportation Panel, where five amazing panelists discussed their career and life choices and insights. It was a special treat to hear their perspectives.

Looking forward, our 2020 Strategic Planning meeting will be held in the evening of Wednesday, December 11th. If you are interested in becoming more involved with the WTS board, we welcome you to join us! Contact me at Lauren.Reinking@jacobs.com for more information. Also, be sure to save the date for our Annual Awards and Scholarships Dinner on Tuesday, January 28th at the Hyatt Regency Downtown Sacramento. It’s sure to be a glowing event and a great way to start out the new year!

Warmest Regards,

Lauren Reinking, PE
