December 2018 Message from the President

Message from the President

Happy New Year WTS Sacramento! Through the continued support of our board members, corporate sponsors and chapter members, we have all helped to contribute to making 2018 an incredibly successful year for our Chapter. On January 30th at our Annual Awards and Scholarship Dinner, we get to see the results of that success when we will award over $22,000 in scholarship checks to several very deserving young women! We will also be giving out five awards to honor a few amazing individuals and companies.

As my last term as WTS President came to a close in December, I am so proud of what we accomplished. We had nine interesting and informative lunch programs, beginning the year with a presentation from then-Director Malcolm Daughtery on the excitement of projects being funded by SB-1, and ending the year with a presentation from Orville Thomas on the fight to keep SB-1. We had two motivating and interactive Professional Development events, including learning some effective self-defense techniques. We celebrated the new appointment of Caltrans Director Laurie Berman, our Transportation YOU girls learned how to iFly, and at our Cruisin' the Catwalk Fashion Show Fundraiser Event we had the highest attendance to date, which lead to a record high $20,000+ raised for our scholarships! We also put on our first Corporate Partner Appreciation Event, as a thank you for the support provided throughout the year by our amazing partners.

Looking forward to 2019, there are a few upcoming events to check out:

January 15th - our WTS Sacramento Chapter 2019 Strategic Planning Session. If you are interested in being more involved in our chapter, please attend this fun planning session for 2019! Contact new President Lauren Reinking (lauren.reinking@jacobs.com) for more information.

January 30th - Annual Awards and Scholarship Dinner, register by January 22nd! Applications for our 2019 Mentorship Program will be available, so if you are interested in being a mentor or a mentee, stay tuned for details!

And with that, it is my pleasure to introduce the 2019 WTS Sacramento Executive Board! I leave you all in their extremely capable hands, and I look forward to watching the continued success of this Chapter in its mission to advance women in transportation.
