February - March 2021 Message From the President

I hope everyone is enjoying the lovely spring weather in Sacramento right now!

I want to begin by welcoming our 24 new and returning members to the WTS Sacramento family as part of our Membership March Madness Competition. We are so happy you chose to be a part of WTS and hope you will take advantage of all the wonderful programs we have to offer. Congratulations to our lucky bracket winner M. SAPIANDANTE with Caltrans!

Don't forget the WTS International 2021 Annual Conference, Our Future in Transportation, will be held virtually this year from May 10-14. The conference has excellent panels, networking opportunities, and truly inspiring keynote speakers lined up. This year, WTS Sacramento offered to sponsor the conference registration fees of one active WTS Sacramento Chapter member. We are so excited to give someone the opportunity to attend who may otherwise not be able to.

February and March were busy for us! WTS honored Black History Month in February and Women’s History Month in March. At our February lunch program, Caltrans Director Toks Omishakin presented on Transportation Equity and at our March lunch program, Caltrans District 6 Director Diana Gomez spoke about her career as an electrical engineer at Caltrans and High Speed Rail.

We also held our bi-annual Public Works Leaders Roundtable virtually in partnership with the American Public Works Association (APWA) in March with 14 participating public works officials. Through various discussions, attendees got to talk to these leaders and ask about priorities and projects going on throughout the region. We cannot thank all of the participating officials enough!

Coming up we have our April Lunch Program on the Folsom Boulevard Revitalization Project on April 22 and we will soon be announcing our Spring Professional Development Series, so stay tuned!

Thank you for your continued support of WTS!

Warmest Regards,

Emily Abrahams

WTS Sacramento Chapter President
