The first quarter of 2025, Transportation YOU also began their partnership with the Sacramento Chinese Community Service Center. This partnership gave our program the opportunity to host an engineering club at Norwood Junior High School during their after school program. On March 5th, Transportation YOU held the first session that allowed us to give a short presentation on WTS and the transportation industry. During this session we were also able to provide 3 activities to interested students. These activities included an interchange activity, seismic activity, and a tunneling precision activity.
On March 19th, our program returned to complete 3 more activities. These activities included a windy tower activity, a space landing activity, and a levitating train activity. On April 9th, Transportation YOU held the third session. Students were tasked with building bridges under set constraints. Bridges were built out of cups, tape, and straws, which they had to buy with a specified budget they were allotted. The bridges had length requirements and were loaded with water bottles. Following the activity, we did trivia with the students, with questions based on previous activities done with the students as well as other transportation topics.
All sessions were successful, with participants staying engaged throughout the sessions. Thank you to our volunteers Amanda Kahn, Candice Mitchell, Mikki McDaniel, Gabbie Sefranek, and Josie Campbell. Lastly, thank you to Norwood Junior High and the Sacramento Chinese Community Service Center. We look forward to the continued partnership.
