8th Annual Cruising the Catwalk Fashion Show Fundraiser
On September 23rd, WTS Sacramento brought back its Cruising the Catwalk Fashion Show Fundraiser after taking 2020 off to slow the spread of COVID-19. The 8th annual show brought a number of changes including a new outdoor location at Folsom Amphitheatre. Pulling off a successful event at a new location would not have been possible without the support of the event’s equipment sponsors, Burne Engineering, California High Speed Rail Authority, and Power & Staging.
After 18 months of remote work, more than 200 transportation professionals from around the Sacramento region gathered to reconnect and watch their colleagues strut their stuff while raising money for the WTS Foundation, which supports the scholarship program. Models and guests mingled for the first hour of the event, enjoying beer and wine courtesy of Dewberry and Mark Thomas, and a Chando’s Tacos food truck courtesy of Dokken Engineering, R.E.Y. Engineers, PSOMAS, and Quincy Engineering.
Guests also participated in the event’s annual raffle, with prizes sponsored by AECOM, Bennett Engineering Services, Dewberry, Dokken Engineering, J. Myrah Environmental, NCE, R.E.Y. Engineers, and UNICO Engineering.
After settling into their seats, guests enjoyed a show featuring 14 returning models from previous Fashion Shows, orchestrated by the night’s two Masters of Ceremony: Jerry Way and Celia McAdam. The models were clothed in their own clothing or by our local boutique partners: Felicia Strati, Terra Cottage, Patrick James, Fleet Feet, Wild Poppy Boutique, Haggin Oaks Super Shop, and Handley's Western Wear. The show concluded with a “Mask On Face Off” mask competition, awarding a growler of beer to the best mask of the night by applause. Sac RT and Lyft vouchers, provided by Sacramento Regional Transit District and Transportation California, ensured that guests and models got home safely.
Thanks to the generous support of our event sponsors and guests, WTS Sacramento raised over $10,000 for our scholarship fund at this year's Fashion Show. Each year WTS Sacramento provides $20,000 in scholarships to support high school, community college, undergraduate, and graduate students interested in transportation fields. Our 2021 scholarship applications are open right now and are available on Our Website. Scroll down for more information on our available scholarships.
Thank you to all of our models, volunteers, event sponsors, and guests for making this event a success!
