About the event
In this introductory training, we will learn how implicit biases are made in our brains and expressed in our actions, creating advantages for some groups and disadvantages for others. This includes an understanding of what motivates our behaviors and decisions, and what we can do to be more cognizant of the shortcuts our brains are taking. Tools and techniques will be presented to reduce our susceptibility to both personal and institutional bias, including the Implicit Association Test and five evidence-based countermeasures. Customized for maximum relevance to WTS, several examples and scenarios are tailored to promote understanding of equity principles and practices through a gender and transportation lens. The training is designed for an adult learning style to be highly interactive and conversational, with concrete actions that can be immediately applied.
