About the event
Join us for our December Lunch Program where we are discussing local transportation sales tax efforts in Sacramento and Placer counties. This month's program will feature Kevin Bewsey, Executive Director of Sacramento Transportation Authority (STA) and Matt Click, Executive Director of Placer County Transportation Planning Agency (PCTPA). The program will include information on Measure A, the half-cent transportation sales tax in Sacramento County, and Keep Placer Moving, the effort to consider a half-cent transportation sales tax in South Placer County. The December Lunch Program will also serve as WTS Sacramento's Annual Meeting and will include a summary of the chapter's work this year.
Measure A is half‐cent district sales tax and development impact fee that funds transportation projects and programs in Sacramento County. First passed by voters in 1989, it was renewed in 2004 allowing it to continue from 2009 to 2039, with a notable 75% majority in favor. Measure A generates about $170 million in sales tax revenue and $7 million in development impact fees. Measure A has made investments in significant transportation projects including the Blue Line Extension to Cosumnes River College, interchange improvements at multiple locations on Highway 99, I-5, and I-80, and the bus/carpool lanes that are currently under construction on US 50.
Placer County is one of the most populous counties in California that doesn't have a local transportation sales tax. PCTPA has been working with residents of South Placer County (Roseville, Rocklin, and Lincoln) for years to identify priorities for a local funding source. The potential measure, currently planned to go to the voters in 2024, would fund improvements to the the I-80/Highway 65 interchange, widening of Highway 65, and Safe Routes to Schools.
