August Lunch Program

California is a national leader in reducing air pollution by actively promoting electric vehicle adoption. While the rapid adoption of electric and other zero-emission vehicles has many benefits, it also creates a need for transportation funding that does not rely on taxing fossil fuels.

Since 2014 California has been investigating the use of a new transportation funding model that would be based on a per mile fee, or road use charge. The   model would be sustainable in a future when Californians drive vehicles that use little to no gasoline.

States across the country are exploring road charge as a viable option. Like many states, California is running pilots to understand how road charge could   work. The final pilot, set to begin this year, is…
