Join us for our April Lunch Program on the new Caltrans Equity Index (EQI) tool, featuring Transportation Analysis Branch Manager Henry McKay and Race and Equity Program Manager Carolyn Abrams, both in the Caltrans Headquarters Office of Equity, Sustainability, and Tribal Affairs. Caltrans recently launched the Transportation Equity Index (EQI) to operationalize the department's commitment to equity. The EQI is a spatial screening tool designed to identify transportation-based priority populations at the Census block level. The EQI development team will provide an overview of the new tool, including how transportation and socioeconomic indicators are integrated into the tool's three screens, which include:
Transportation-Based Priority Populations: Communities that are most burdened by the transportation system and receive the fewest benefits.
Traffic Exposure: Communities that are most burdened through high exposure to traffic and crashes.
Access to Destinations: Communities that have the greatest gaps in multimodal access to destinations.
